The Coherence Party is for anybody who feels politically "homeless", socially hopeless, globally uninspired, or just freaked out.
What is Coherence?
Coherence describes things that hold together, best understood in contrast to adherence—when one thing holds to another—or incoherence, when nothing holds together at all.
Coherent things are consistent, match expectations, and form a unified whole; incoherent things fall apart, disintegrate, or defy understanding.
Why Coherence?
We believe coherence—in every way imaginable—is the most important ingredient of a livable future.
We poke the awkward intersection between the decisions humanity has been making and the ones we must urgently make next by drawing together new ways of thinking about, talking about, and responding to the overwhelming challenges of metamodernity and our present polycrisis.
How did this start?
With a curious thought:
What if we ditch our conventional political affiliations and attach ourselves to anything better—what could that thing be?
Recently, it's become clear that the safest, best, and most urgent investment anyone can make in the future is to begin envisioning and fostering a more coherent world.
What do you mean by "Coherent World"?
Our agenda envisions a near future built on more coherence in three broad areas: communication, communities, and governance.
A near future, where:
- truth is celebrated and deceit is shunned;
- words have concrete meanings;
- citizens understand their power and leaders their obligations;
- compensation is tied to responsibility & liability;
- justice is objective and not sold for money;
- trust and sincerity stand a better chance of prevailing.
How serious is the Coherence Party?
The perspectives and ideas on these pages are intensely serious—things we sincerely hope can gain better purchase in the zeitgeist.
With that said, it’s best to think of the Coherence Party like a fictional party made up of real principles.
Is this Democratic, Republican, or something else?
We aim to exist beyond historical frames of reference, dismissing entirely the paradigm of democratic, republican, independent, green, etc.
Further, we reject conventional polarities and anybody who exploits the antipathy of one group against another.
We maintain a pro-social perspective that understands the future survival of all humans is inherently mutual and interconnected—the obvious alternative is annihilation, and entirely unacceptable.
Is this only for/about Americans?
The Coherence Party is presented from an American context, however we strive to be generous enough in approach that this could apply to any declining Western democracy.
Who publishes this site?
The Coherence Party is (at least for now) the creative rage-work of a middle-aged white cis/het millenial man living on the US West coast, but he hopes to find likeminded collaborators ASAFP to help widen the lens. It is funded by the author, without the aid of any brands, sponsorships or companies.
Are you a real political party?
The Coherence Party is a not a registered political entity and any patronage or subscription fees are not deductable as donations.
