Re: Incoherence

Incoherence may go a long way in explaining why it's been so hard to talk to your (parent/sibling/child/neighbor) about literally anything lately.

No matter your views on the issues of our day, it's certain you've experienced lots of frustration trying to talk with people who believe differently.

Most political debates feel fruitless because they're rooted in a realm of unspoken incoherence, where otherwise smart, thoughtful, decent people maintain deeply held, but deeply conflicted beliefs.

When these conflicted, incoherent beliefs go unacknowledged and unresolved, both our shared discourse and shared reality falls apart.

If you've had any trouble speaking with a loved one lately,

Is it because the conversation was dancing around one or more giant incoherences?

Things fall apart when they become incoherent, and it's been happening in both our personal interactions, and at a global scale.

The only way to combat tsunamis of incoherence is by counteraction, and the crusade of our age is to know, demonstrate, and defend coherence in every form.

Consider your hypothetical "asshole dad" ...

  • doesn't appreciate being called a hypocrite, so
  • work him instead toward Coherence

Consider your imaginary "reserved, demure mom" ...

  • would never acknowledge her double standards, so
  • challenge her instead toward Coherence

Consider your mythical "siblings, nibblings, or children" ...

  • are too adrift in this chaotic world to to know which way's up, so
  • we all must help cohere the young to any bits of today worth preserving for tomorrow

In challenges against chaos: choose Coherence.

In appealing to acrimony: amplify Coherence.

In doings & don't-ings: demonstrate Coherence.

Fight for Coherence
For every thing
For all time
